STATEMENT OF WORK
SOLAR REFLEXIONS
In addition to my contemporary, designer paintings, I am adding a series of work titled, "Solar Reflexions". It is an art form that Man Ray developed during the 1920's. He was a Surrealist and Dadaist renowned for his photographs of "cameraless" pictures called Rayographs, which he described as "pure Dadaism".
Working between the abstract and the representational, the Rayographs revealed a new way of seeing, which paved the way to the dreamlike visions of the Surrealist writers and painters.
My intent is to explore the "universe" within my art, complete with its familiar galaxies and unexplored uncertainties. I have employed light as an agent in creating images of space, with its vast multiple dimensions of time, light, and matter. I have learned to manipulate reflections, refractions, and shadows of light to create infinite patterns, which are reminiscent of the region beyond the earth's atmosphere and beyond the solar system.
It is "light" that is significant to the creation of the universe, and it is the universe that is significant to the creation of my art.
